A key challenge for SMEs transitioning to Net Zero is raising funding for the capital expenditure involved such as solar panels, battery storage, electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure to name a few examples.

There are four ways to reduce costs for sustainability action - Grants, VAT Exemptions, Green Loans, and Finance. The UK asset finance market provides £’bns of funding every year to SMEs (particularly through Hire Purchase) and is a key source of funding for Net Zero expenditure.

Taking advantage of any available grants is key.  Grants reduce the cost of the expenditure and in turn this reduces the amount of any funding the SME needs to raise.

We will keep Surrey-specific funding opportunities updated on this page, and you can view a summary of UK-wide grants is available from the following government supported Business Climate Hub website.
